Although the amount of time required to complete a translation varies depending on the complexity and technicality of the subject matter, most translators will typically be able to translate around 2,000-2,500 words per day.
In addition to my degree in Modern European Languages and my professional experience in the finance sector, I have also been awarded the Chartered Institute of Linguist’s Diploma in Translation, a postgraduate level equivalent qualification intended to provide a measure of professional competence.

Online translation services can definitely be useful for getting a general idea of what a text is about. However, producing a translation that is as comprehensible and appropriate for readers of the translation as it was for readers of the original text is a much more complex task that requires an in-depth knowledge of:
- the language (and culture) of the original text
- the language (and culture) of the translation
- the subject matter of the text in question
